Canadian Toller Specialty Attracts Record EntryTyson Wins 2009 National Specialty After Going Best Opposite in 2007
Judge Ainslie Mills of British Columbia selected Ch. Anando Off Centre Toller Tyson as her winner at the 2009 Canadian National Toller Specialty Show.
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club of Canada National Specialty took place on May 17, 2009, in Kitchener, Ontario with a record 150 dogs entered in the conformation classes. Tyson was handled to his win by breeder Andrea Mills (no relation) for owners Tanya and Gabe Bergamo of Maple Ridge, B.C. Co-breeder was Joy Hill, who also whelped the litter. “He is a lovely dog, easy to live with and eager to do whatever you want,” said his handler/breeder. “He loves to swim and is a great family pet. And, he loves to show off. He has been #1 Toller in Canada 2 years running and #1 All-Systems in the USA last year as well.” Not content to rest on his laurels, Tyson won the Toller Booster and placed Third in Group at the K-W Kennel Club all-breed show in Kitchener the day after the Specialty. Among his many other wins, the multi-Group-winning 5-year-old dog was Best of Winners at the 2005 U.S. National Specialty, Best of Opposite Sex at the 2007 Canadian National Specialty and Best of Breed at the 2009 Westminster Kennel Club show in New York City. Other Winners at the National Toller Specialty in KitchenerJudge Mills gave Best of Opposite Sex to Ch. Redfox Switch to Katyra, handled by owner Kathy Adorjan of Sherkston, Ontario. Switch, age 3, was bred by John and Stephanie Halse. She also teamed up with littermate Ch. Redfox Chaotic Spring to win Best Brace in Specialty. Awards of Merit were handed out to Ch. Redlands Ahoy There Seabright, bred by Sandra Bruce and Shelley Hutt and owned by Sheila Fee, Calgary, Alberta; Ch. Pikkinokka’s Ziggy Stardust, bred by Til Niquidet and owned by Simone Sortwell and Connie Redmond, Chilliwack, B.C.; and Ch. Javahill Steal My Heart, bred by Linda Fitzmaurice and Meredith Noreen, owned by Amy and Paul Soderman, California. This dog also was Best of Breed and Group 2nd at the all-breed show on Saturday, May 16. Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for 5 points was Jocar’s Lil Miss Addi Tude, bred by Carolyn Doyle, owned by Til Niquidet and handled by Stacey Einck. Winners Dog, also for 5 points, was Cedar Fog Midnight Seduxion, bred by Elizabeth Fogg and owned by Kathryn Guerra of Illinois. Best Puppy was an 8-month-old dog, Tollchester Storms Kelticfox, bred and owned by Simone Sortwell of Chilliwack. Unofficial Class Winners at the National Toller SpecialtyNeutered dogs and bitches had their own classes with 11 entries. Altered Winners Bitch and Best Altered in Breed was Ch. Rideau’s Kylador Forest Flame, bred by Colin and Jacqiue Riley and owned by Bill and Grace Yates of Mississauga, Ontario. This was a 4-point win towards Ember’s Altered Championship. Altered Best of Opposite Sex and Altered Winners Dog for 1 point was Ch. MOTCh. Foxgrove’s Celtic Spirit WCI JH AGN, bred by Sue Kish and owned by Shelagh MacDonald of Ottawa, Ontario. The Gun Dog Class, for dogs with a field title, featured 26 entries and had to be split by sex. Best Gun Dog and Best Male was Ch. Driftwood’s Coastal Clipper, bred and owned by Carol and Paul Milbury of Massachusetts. Clipper was first in Veteran Dog class also. Best Bitch was Cedar Fog’s Holiday, owned and bred by Elizabeth Fogg of New Hampshire. Holiday also won the Brood Bitch Class, was dam of the Winners Dog and placed third in Open Bitch in the regular classes.
